THE UNIVERSITY OF MEMPHIS POLICY MANUAL

SUBJECT: Fraternity Housing

POLICY NO.: I:2E:15:02 DATED: August 29, 1989

SUPERSEDES POLICY NO.: I:2E:01:03 DATED: December 1, 1979

The University, in accordance with the rules and regulations
promulgated by its governing board, has designated the following
policies concerning the inspection of Fraternity chapter houses in
regards of health, fire, and safety standards.

    I. Off-Campus and On-Campus Facilities:

        1. All facilities must meet existing regulations and laws
concerning health, fire and safety standards. Each
fraternity chapter must provide suitable evidence that is
in compliance with all state and local safety standards.

        2. The University shall have the right to inspect fraternity
chapter facilities periodically to ascertain compliance
with all state and local regulations and laws concerning
health, fire and safety standards. Failure of a
fraternity chapter to maintain its compliance
could result in corrective action, including loss of
            recognition by the University.

        3. It is understood that because fraternities are recognized
student organizations and housing arrangements are made
by private housing corporations, the University cannot
be held responsible for damages, property losses or
other similar occurrences that happen on the property of
            or in said fraternity houses.
