SUBJECT:  Regulating Admission to Non-Academic Activities - 
          Outdoor Amplified Sound Events and/or Live Entertainment
          Programs

PROCEDURE NO.:  2E:13:01C                   DATE:   August 13, l989 

SUPERSEDES PROCEDURE NO.:  2E:13:01C        DATED:  October 25, 1988 


The following procedures will deal with Outdoor Amplified Sound
Events and/or Live Entertainment Programs that are held on The
University of Memphis campus and sponsored by university
organizations:

1.  The form for Requesting Outdoor Amplified Sound Events and/or
    Live Entertainment Programs Approval (Form A) must be
    completed as out lined in Procedure 2A:04:03A.  Special
    procedures and conditions may be outlined by the Associate
    Dean for Student Life. 

2.  Admittance - Free and open to students, faculty, staff, and
    guests of the university.

3.  Publicity - Publicity for said events may be distributed on or
    off campus but all publicity media must contain the wording
    "open to The U of M students, faculty, staff and guests of the
    university." 

4.  Sponsorship - Any recognized student organization with
    adequate funds to cover the cost of outdoor amplified sound
    events and/or live entertainment programs and publicity of
    same, prior to event may sponsor said funds.  The sponsoring
    organization will assume the responsibility for the control of
    conduct of all participants at the outdoor amplified sound
    event and/or live entertainment program.  Security is required
    for all outdoor amplified sound events and/or live entertain-
    ment programs to assist in control and conduct of participants. 
    Conduct must be consistent with university regulations and codes 
    of conduct.  Future scheduling of events will depend upon the 
    organization's and security's ability to control the conduct of 
    those in attendance at the outdoor amplified sound event and/or 
    live entertainment program.

5.  Location - Outdoor amplified sound events and/or live
    entertainment programs may be held in facilities anywhere on
    The U of M campus where appropriate scheduling and clearance
    is made in advance.  Outside or off campus programs must be
    approved by proper university officials. 

6.  Concessions at Outdoor Amplified Sound Events and/or Live
    Entertainment - Approval must be secured with the University
    Food Service Liaison for any food or drink items distributed
    or sold during the outdoor amplified sound events and/or live
    entertainment program.  Alcoholic beverages or drugs will not
    be allowed during events and containers may be checked by
    Security for compliance.

7.  Advisor's Responsibility - Advisors, or his/her faculty/staff
    designate, to student organizations sponsoring outdoor
    amplified sound events and/or live entertainment programs in
    The U of M facilities will be in attendance at the outdoor
    amplified sound event and/or live entertainment program from
    beginning to end to aid students in any problems.
