Students who wish to officially withdraw from the University may do so through the last day to withdraw specified in the University Calendar for that part of term.

  • The withdrawal date is established at approximately the 50% point in the term or part of term.
  • Failure to officially withdraw will result in grades of "F" for the courses in which the student is enrolled.
  • Late requests may be made according to guidelines in the procedures that follow.
  • Withdrawals are recorded on the student's course record with a "W" grade when the student drops (or withdraws from) the course after the census date for the part of term in which the course is offered.
  • Refund of enrollment fees is based on the official date of withdrawal.
  • Financial aid students who withdraw through 60% of the term may be required to repay a portion of their aid.

Purpose

To provide Undergraduate, Graduate, and Law students the opportunity to process official drops from course(s) or to withdraw from the University; to insure that students are properly informed of the academic and financial implications of withdrawal.

Withdrawal

Students my process a withdrawal on the Web through the deadline stated in the semester calendar for the part of term in which the course is being taught. If the student is having difficulty withdrawing on the Web, the student may receive assistance by calling the Registrar's HelpLine (2810) or by going to the Office of the Registrar. If a student is hospitalilzed or otherwise incapacitated, other arrangements can be made for withdrawing the student by contacting the Office of the Registrar.

Law Late WithdrawalStudents may request a late withdrawal from the Law School by notifying the office of the Dean in writing, provided, however, that withdrawal is not permitted within one week of the beginning of the final examination period of a semester or summer session without permission of the Dean.

Undergraduate Late Withdrawal

Late withdrawal requests (i.e., those requested after the final date to drop through the term following the term in which the grade was assigned) for Undergraduate students should be filed in the Dean's Office of the student's major college or the Academic Counseling Center for students with no declared major. Athletes requesting late withdrawals must seek approval from their Athletic Academic Advisor. Upon approval, the student will be given a signed Schedule Adjustment Form.  It is the student's responsibility to bring the Schedule Adjustment Form to the Registrar's Office for processing.

Withdrawals later than one regular term after the term in which the grade was assigned are processed as retroactive withdrawals. Students should request the approval of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Programs.

Graduate Late WithdrawalGraduate students should request approval for late withdrawals from the Director of Graduate Studies in the college of their major. Non-degree students require the approval of the Vice Provost for Graduate Studies. Upon approval, the student will be given a signed Schedule Adjustment Form.  It is the student's responsibility to bring the Schedule Adjustment Form to the Registrar's Office for processing.
